International Night 2 Tribute to Sugar Minott
Summerfest Productions announced a special tribute and musical dedication to the late Sugar Minott on International Night 2, Saturday, July 24, 2010.
Sugar Minott passed away on July 10, 2010. The festival organizers honoured his immense contribution to reggae music and described him as one of Jamaica’s musical treasures.
“Reggae Sumfest is about celebrating good music, and Sugar Minott is unquestionably one of Jamaica’s treasures,” stated Executive Producer Johnny Gourzong.
The dedication featured Tristan Palmer, Jimmy Riley, Little John and Tony Tuff, with backing-band arrangements and musical selections by Dean Fraser.
Sugar Minott rose through Jamaica’s sound-system circuit and recorded songs including Ruff Ole Life, River Jordan, Vanity and Mr DC. He helped open important international markets for reggae and became a repeat Reggae Sumfest performer.
International Night 2 also featured Usher, Shaggy, Beenie Man, Gramps Morgan and Tarrus Riley. This information was originally published in a Headline Entertainment “Special Edition.”
