Dancehall Night Dedicated to O’Neil Edwards
Summerfest Productions, organizers of Reggae Sumfest, dedicated Dancehall Night to the memory of the late O’Neil Edwards, former member of the dancehall group Voicemail.
The energetic and colourful performer passed away on May 26, 2010, after being attacked at his home. The Reggae Sumfest team described the tribute as recognition of a personality whose music helped maintain the flair, fun and finesse of dancehall culture.
“It is appropriate to honour a vibrant personality that was loved in the music business,” explained Johnny Gourzong, Executive Director of Reggae Sumfest.
Voicemail members Jerome “Craig” Jackson and Kevin Blair planned a special performance in memory of their group member, including the single Praise His Name, written before his passing.
Voicemail appeared on Dancehall Night alongside Bounty Killer, Mavado, Elephant Man, Vybz Kartel, Tifa, Ce’Cile and Stacious. The following nights featured Chris Brown, Queen Ifrica, Jah Cure, Gyptian, Usher, Shaggy, Beenie Man, Tarrus Riley and Gramps Morgan.
