Negril Roundabout to Green Island
Special traffic controls were in place for the 10th annual Reggae Marathon and Half Marathon.
General Road-Closure Information
Only free shuttle buses and authorized vehicles were allowed during the closure. Free shuttle buses picked up and dropped off anyone needing to travel along the Reggae Marathon route from the Negril Roundabout to Green Island.
- Vehicles traveling from Lucea and Green Island were directed through Grange Hill, Alma and Little London to Negril.
- Vehicles traveling from Montego Bay were directed to use the Reading–Savanna-la-Mar route.
- Shuttle departures were scheduled for 4:00, 4:15, 4:30 and 4:45 a.m. Shuttles paused between 5:15 and 7:15 a.m., then resumed.
- Traffic rules were rigorously enforced for participant safety. Travelers were asked to plan ahead and allow extra time.
Guests Departing for Flights
Hotel guests departing Jamaica were instructed to leave their resorts early. Hotels and guest houses were asked to provide the following details to JUTA Negril by noon on Tuesday, November 30, 2010:
- Name of hotel or guest house
- Name of company or driver transporting the guests
- Vehicle type, colour and licence number
- Flight departure time
- Departure time from the hotel
Police escorts were planned from properties on Norman Manley Boulevard to the Negril Roundabout, followed by the Savanna-la-Mar/Reading route to Montego Bay Airport.
Guests Arriving at Montego Bay Airport
Vehicles traveling to Negril were instructed to use the Long Hill/Reading route through Savanna-la-Mar. The following details were requested by JUTA Negril by noon on Tuesday, November 30, 2010:
- Name of hotel or guest house
- Name of company or driver transporting the guests
- Vehicle type, colour and licence number
- Flight arrival time in Montego Bay
Staff Travel Instructions
Staff Coming from Westmoreland
Early-shift staff were asked to reach the Negril Roundabout by 4:30 a.m. to board a shuttle. Staff buses also needed to arrive by 4:30 a.m.
Staff Coming from Hanover
Staff were asked to reach Green Island by 4:45 a.m. for shuttle transportation to Long Bay Beach Park and, as time permitted, properties farther along the route.
Staff Scheduled for 7:00 a.m.
Properties were advised to keep night staff on duty until morning staff arrived. Delays of approximately 45 minutes to one hour were expected.
Police and Reopening Procedures
- The road reopened gradually as runners passed each area.
- The section from the Negril Roundabout to Long Bay Beach Park was scheduled to reopen first.
- Police controlled traffic at strategic locations along Norman Manley Boulevard.
- Only emergency vehicles, shuttles and authorized vehicles were permitted during the closure.
